ABAALY CORE BANKING SYSTEM (CBS)

The Abaaly Core Banking System is the operational backbone used daily by bank staff to manage customer records, accounts, transactions, payments, and branch operations.

The platform supports thousands of daily banking operations where speed, accuracy, and compliance are critical. Every workflow was designed to reduce operational errors while helping staff complete complex banking tasks with confidence.

Every interaction affects customer trust, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Even small usability issues can lead to delays, processing errors, and financial risk.

Because this project contains confidential banking information, I have reduced the number of presented screens.

Project Duration

16 Months

The Challenge

The platform was designed to support business requirements and modern banking operations.

Common challenges we saw, and we’re fixing include:

πŸ’  Lengthy customer onboarding
πŸ’  Complex account opening processes
πŸ’  High cognitive load during transaction processing
πŸ’  Multiple approval steps across different modules
πŸ’  Inconsistent navigation
πŸ’  Repetitive data entry
πŸ’  Increased risk of operational mistakes

The objective was to create a fresh, streamlined experience for these critical workflows without compromising security, auditability, or banking regulations

Understanding the Users

Responsible for onboarding new customers, updating customer information, opening accounts, and verifying KYC documents.

Handle deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and daily cash operations.

Monitor transactions, approvals, and account maintenance

Review regulatory requirements, customer verification, and audit records.

My Research Process

I did a thorough research, gathering data to aid my design decisions

I worked closely with banking stakeholders to understand operational pain points and define the requirements for a fresh core banking experience from the ground up

Activities included

πŸ’  Stakeholder interviews
πŸ’  Workflow mapping
πŸ’  Branch observations
πŸ’  Existing system analysis
πŸ’  Requirement workshops
πŸ’  Usability reviews

Key Findings

Employees needed a system that could support multiple banking tasks without forcing them to jump between disconnected tools.

Important customer information had to be organized in a way that was easy to scan and act on quickly.

Large forms needed to be broken into clearer, more manageable steps to reduce onboarding time.

Critical actions required stronger visual hierarchy to guide users through high-risk tasks.

Approval workflows needed to be easy to follow and track across roles.

Validation errors had to appear earlier in the process to prevent mistakes before submission.

System Flow

The System flows was created using data

Core Experience

I focuses on the actual operational journeys as part of the project

  1. Customer Onboarding

The goal was to enable banking staff to register new customers accurately while satisfying KYC and compliance requirements.

Connecting the Dots

My Key learning and reflections

Key Learnings

πŸ’  Enterprise banking products require a deep understanding of operations, compliance, and risk
πŸ’  Design decisions influence both customer experience and internal efficiency
πŸ’  The best enterprise experiences simplify complexity without removing necessary controls
πŸ’  Small improvements across high-frequency workflows create meaningful business value at scale

Final Reflection

Designing Abaaly Core Banking System strengthened my ability to solve problems where accuracy, trust, and compliance matter as much as usability.

The project reinforced the importance of balancing user needs with operational requirements while creating experiences that help banking professionals work faster, make fewer mistakes, and deliver better service with confidence
