Designing an enterprise banking platform that simplifies complex operations across customer management, payments, lending, compliance, and branch operations

Design System
Abaaly Core Banking System is an enterprise platform built to support the daily operations of modern financial institutions.
The platform brings customer management, accounts, payments, lending, compliance, cards, disputes, treasury, reporting, and administrative workflows into one unified experience.
Instead of treating each banking module as a separate product, the goal was to create a connected ecosystem where information flows naturally between teams, decisions happen faster, and critical operations remain accurate and compliant.
Every design decision focused on reducing operational complexity while supporting the speed, precision, and reliability expected in enterprise banking.
Some workflows, customer data, and operational details have been intentionally redacted to protect confidential business information.

The challenge
Developing an in-house core banking system
The bank relied on a third-party Core Banking System delivered as a subscription service. While it supported day-to-day operations, the platform became increasingly restrictive as the institution expanded its products, customer base, and operational needs.
💠 Vendor dependency slowed innovation and product evolution.
💠 Rising subscription costs became unsustainable at scale.
💠 Limited customization restricted business-specific workflows.
💠 Disconnected systems reduced operational efficiency.
💠 Lack of platform ownership constrained long-term growth.
💠 Limited integrations slowed digital transformation.
💠 Inconsistent user experience reduced staff productivity.
The objective was to create a fresh, streamlined experience for these critical workflows without compromising security, auditability, or banking regulations
Understanding the Users
Responsible for onboarding new customers, updating customer information, opening accounts, and verifying KYC documents.
Handle deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and daily cash operations.
Monitor transactions, approvals, and account maintenance
Review regulatory requirements, customer verification, and audit records.
How I Build THIS Enterprise Product
My End-to-End Design Process
Every enterprise product is different, but my approach stays consistent. I begin by understanding the business, validating decisions with stakeholders, and designing systems that engineering teams can build and scale with confidence.
Core Principles
Every design decision supports a measurable business objective.
I optimize how work gets done before designing how it looks.
Every feature fits into a scalable product ecosystem.
Research and feedback guide product decisions.
Great products come from close partnership with product, engineering, and business teams.
Every solution is designed to support future growth.
RESEARCH & DISCOVERY
I spent weeks researching the CBS
Before designing the platform, I spent time understanding how banking teams actually work. Rather than starting with screens, I focused on the people, processes, and operational constraints that shape everyday banking.
Through interviews, workflow reviews, and observations across business and technical teams, I identified the decisions, bottlenecks, and compliance requirements that would influence every design decision moving forward.
Research Activities
💠 Stakeholder interviews
💠 Workflow mapping
💠 Branch observations
💠 Existing system analysis
💠 Requirement workshops
💠 Usability Assessment
💠 Competitive Analysis
💠 Regulatory Review
Key Findings
Scalability and flexibility were as important as usability because the bank planned to expand its products.
Existing workflows reflected software limitations rather than how banking teams naturally worked.
Large forms needed to be broken into clearer, more manageable steps to reduce onboarding time.
Critical actions required stronger visual hierarchy to guide users through high-risk tasks.
Approval workflows needed to be easy to follow and track across roles.
Validation errors had to appear earlier in the process to prevent mistakes before submission.
Design Principles Shaped by Research
💠 Reduce context switching
💠 Keep critical information visible.
💠 Design around operational workflows
💠 Support role-based decision-making.
💠 Build for scalability from day one.
Product Strategy
How I strategize in delivering
Research uncovered operational challenges, but solving them required more than improving individual screens. The platform needed a product strategy that simplified complex banking workflows, strengthened operational control, and created a scalable foundation for future growth.
Product Principles
Every user sees the information, permissions, and actions relevant to their responsibilities.
Consolidate customer information into one connected workspace instead of multiple disconnected modules.
Navigation reflects how banking teams perform daily tasks, not how the system is built.
Compliance, approvals, audit logs, and verification are embedded into every workflow.
Every module is designed to support future products, integrations, and organizational growth.
Shared components and interaction patterns create a predictable experience across the platform.
Feature Prioritization
Success Metrics
Consolidate fragmented tools into unified workflows that eliminate redundant steps and context switching.
Streamline KYC, document collection, and account creation into a single guided flow from days to hours.
Replace manual reconciliation, data entry, and approval routing with intelligent automation and real-time processing.
Role-based dashboards and smart defaults reduce training time and let teams focus on high-value decisions.
Embedded compliance checks, automatic audit trails, and real-time KYC updates eliminate regulatory gaps.
Modular architecture supports new products, integrations, and organizational expansion without re-architecture.
Information Architecture
I gain clarity before creating screens
Before designing individual screens, I mapped the structure of the platform. The objective was to organize complex banking operations into a clear, scalable architecture that supports different user roles, workflows, and future expansion.
Scalability
Independent modules support future expansion.
Customer information flows consistently across the platform.
Navigation patterns remain consistent as new products are introduced.
Role-based access supports organizational growth without redesigning the experience.
Wireframes & Exploration
I conceptualized ideas for validation
With the product structure and workflows defined, I explored multiple layout directions before committing to the final interface. The goal was to validate information hierarchy, reduce complexity, and establish interaction patterns that could scale across the platform.

Final composition: Putting it all together
Every screen was designed to support real operational workflows while balancing efficiency, consistency, and regulatory compliance. Rather than optimizing isolated interfaces, the focus was creating a cohesive platform where every module feels familiar, predictable, and connected.
The dashboard surfaces operational health, pending actions, customer activity, and business performance in one workspace, giving teams immediate visibility into what requires attention.
Customer Workspace
The dashboard surfaces operational health, pending actions, customer activity, and business performance in one workspace, giving teams immediate visibility into what requires attention.
Identity, accounts, loans, and transaction history live in one workspace.
Common banking tasks remain one click away.
KYC, risk status, and verification progress stay visible throughout the workflow.
Every customer interaction contributes to a complete operational history.
Customer Onboarding
The goal was to enable banking staff to register new customers accurately while satisfying KYC and compliance requirements.
💠 Progressive information entry
💠 Contextual validation
💠 Real-time duplicate detection
💠 Clear document upload flow
💠 Step-by-step guidance
💠 Review before submission
💠 Lower onboarding errors
💠 Faster account creation
💠 Reduced manual corrections
